It's been some time since my last update on this project.  Most of my core ideas have stayed more or less the same, but ironing out many of the smaller details always takes longer.  That and I enjoy juggling between different projects.  Some may say it makes you lose focus, but I think it helps me to alleviate any burn out and come to flesh out ideas more naturally.  One such aspect has been the decision to want to do hand painted backgrounds and perhaps other assets for this game.  I'd been primarily an artist for most of my life, much of it traditionally with pencil sketches and doodles, doing more digital in recent years, but have only recently got into painting with gouache.  I'm by no means great at it, but it's something I have fun learning and am passionate about, and feel it may go a long ways to making this feel more unique.  Suppose it's not terribly different from prerendered backgrounds from just some years ago - perhaps looking into those I can sort out any potential issues I might face down the line.
